This legacy began with early computing milestones like the EDSAC, the world's first practical stored-program computer built in 1949 by Maurice Wilkes at the University's Mathematical Laboratory, enabling complex calculations that paved the way for modern digital systems. In 1952, Sandy Douglas created OXO, the first graphical computer game, running on the EDSAC as a digital version of noughts and crosses.
